TINDERBOX: Making Progress

March 1st, 2010 by susan

Here’s the latest version of Literary Endeavors, with the Poems set up and the Print Journals transferred from a Container to an Adornment. Couple things learned the hard way: If you overlap an Adornment onto another, you’ve got a holy mess on your hands because they become attached and move together, leaving the notes behind. Worked my way out of it, but not a happy sight as you move things around and the situation gets worse. But that’s what the “Save” feature is for.

Obviously, planning ahead for size when you want something that needs to all be displayed at once (another reason for keeping them out of Containers and using Adornments) is an important point. Particularly when you know you will be adding lots of notes on an adornment. I should have minimized the view right away and spread the Adornments to fit at that point, geared towards a horizontal screen.

As far as links, all I have so far is the (blush!) published ones in so far but I’m planning for the submitted and accepted/rejected return links as soon as I resize my layout.

Your problem was, your adornments were STICKY! you turn stickiness on and off by clicking the pushpins, or checking/unchecking the sticky checkbox in the Rename dialog.

Yes, thanks! I realized it once I started pulling them apart. Now I know enough to unstickyize them and resize away from each other if I mess up again.

If Tinderbox adornments overlap, and the the adornment being dragged is $Sticky, the other adornment will drag as will any notes within the second adornment that are also totally within, or partially overlapping, the first adornment. The $Sticky and $Locked states of the second adornment are ignored in this scenario – so even if the second adornment is $Sticky, notes on it that don’t overlap the first adornment will be left behind. I’m sure the latter’s not intended and will change but it’s true as at TB v5.0.2.

Hmmm. I did the Sticky, but forgot about the locked. Actually, my Adornments were moved (by sticking together) and even though they were “sticky’ed”, the notes were sometimes left behind. I should’ve taken a screen capture. It was a riot! Thanks, Mark(s), I’ve copied your comments and pasted into a file in case I forget.
