"With his beautiful young wife and five children--four boys and one girl--they found a valley that was protected from the north by high rocky cliffs that flowed into a verdant grassland on down to the wide river to the south. Here, with a few of their neighbors they became sailors.
"From the river they pulled great slapping silver fish and quick tasty crabs and the occasional tender-breasted turtle. They planted vineyards that produced wine that became their main resource of trade but unfortunately drank most of their profits.
