She takes a step forward. He drops his champagne on the floor.
His eyes seem to plead for forgiveness. It's almost too much to bear and for a moment she must look away. But the time has come and they must make up their minds and directions. She feels it is all in her hands.
She looks at him carefully, thoughtfully. From somewhere inside comes the nearly lost love and she stares in wonder. His hair magically thickens, his beer belly sucks itself out of sight. She softens and she reaches a hand out to him, which he gratefully and shamefully takes. Turning gracefully, she says over her shoulder, to the Greek god whose heart she could break, "leave us alone for a moment, please."
