Haaji went up and down the streets in their neighborhood looking for Simone. He came home with the hope of opening the door and finding her there. He went back out on his bike and ran into the stores he thought she might go visit.
It was almost noon when he felt the scent of a parade on his heels. A few times he caught the black flash of something out of the corner of his eye.
He went home not wanting to believe she'd been taken. He would never be able to eat anything again. He would slit his throat, he swore it. He pulled himself up the stairs, shuffled to his apartment, unlocked the door and pushed it open.
He caught the scent of her, heard her humming. He went straight to the kitchen for a knife.
