When we got home my mother had the house keys out before my grandfather stopped the car. He pulled up real close to the front door and cut the ignition. We waited while my mother handed my father the keys. He looked down at the bag in his lap and then at her. He did it again.
"Well just give it to me, I'll hold it!" she said. Reluctantly he set it into her lap. Then he took the keys and ran for the door. All the car doors flew open when he waved us in. My grandmother was asleep and left behind. But I made sure all the doors were shut.
"Did you lock the doors?" my grandfather asked.
"Yes," I said.
