"Harvey! There's a cow in the living room!"

Harve cringed. He had hoped that Maude wouldn't notice.

"Harve?" Maude was madder than he expected. She stood in the doorway with steam rising like pavement mist in the face of the sun.

Harve does some quick thinking. He says,

a) "I know, but it's only for one night."

b) "What cow? Where?"

c) nothing at all. He knows better.
