{"id":421,"date":"2007-11-11T08:29:38","date_gmt":"2007-11-11T15:29:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/?p=421"},"modified":"2007-11-11T08:29:38","modified_gmt":"2007-11-11T15:29:38","slug":"storyspace-structure-and-flow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/2007\/11\/storyspace-structure-and-flow\/","title":{"rendered":"STORYSPACE: Structure and Flow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"drop\">I<\/span>t&#8217;s hard to decide, I think, how to physically structure the narrative of story in <em>Storyspace<\/em>.&nbsp; I&#8217;m anxious to try building one up from ground zero, but meanwhile, working with what I have it seemed to naturally fall into place.&nbsp; I followed characters and their perspectives.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The story does have an obvious theme, and it is clearly character-driven.&nbsp; But in adding and revising, I&#8217;m finding two elements possibly missing.<\/p>\n<p>One is grounding, or setting.&nbsp; It&#8217;s not just a matter of place, thus description, because setting is vital to the theme of choice and movement.&nbsp; Therefore, I&#8217;m giving that a bit more importance, an easy thing to do in the <em>Storyspace<\/em> format by &quot;adding a path in a pause.&quot;&nbsp; In fact, any spots I find myself pausing in dare clearer definition by path.<\/p>\n<p>The other is the standard of a character wanting something, seeing how far he&#8217;ll go to get it, and whether or not he achieves his goal, in what way does it change him.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>These stories are almost an after-the-fact issue on that.&nbsp; Decisions have been made, the drama is over, and the aftereffects are the story now.&nbsp; The pressure points are the side trails revealed a bit at a time here and there, that while officially backstory, are also not fact as they are based on each character&#8217;s perspective.&nbsp; They also may or may not have happened that way.<\/p>\n<p>Interesting problems to overcome.&nbsp; <em>Storyspace <\/em>appears an invaluable tool in not only pointing out the troubling spots, but in offering the best way to remedy them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"drop\">I<\/span>t&#8217;s hard to decide, I think, how to physically structure the narrative of story in Storyspace.&nbsp; I&#8217;m anxious to try building one up from ground zero, but meanwhile, working with what I have it seemed to naturally fall into place.&nbsp; I followed characters and their perspectives.&nbsp; The story does have an obvious theme, and it [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-421","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-storyspace"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/421","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=421"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/421\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=421"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=421"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=421"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
