{"id":528,"date":"2007-06-02T13:29:16","date_gmt":"2007-06-02T20:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/?p=528"},"modified":"2007-06-02T13:29:16","modified_gmt":"2007-06-02T20:29:16","slug":"software-tools-a-confusing-bonanza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/2007\/06\/software-tools-a-confusing-bonanza\/","title":{"rendered":"SOFTWARE &#038; TOOLS: A Confusing Bonanza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"drop\">O<\/span>h my.&nbsp; Went to the <em>Alice<\/em> site at Carnegie Mellon just to rev myself up to finish the dumb Scratch project and pave the way to <em>Alice<\/em> and for goodness&#8217; sake I found a plethora (love that word!) of information and stuff that took my time up not in doing but in watching <em>(I am a reader not a writer; a watcher not a doer).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Watched some of the student and research team projects and found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etc.cmu.edu\/curriculum\/bvw\/\">more and more<\/a> animation software that led me ever onward and away from <em>Alice<\/em> herself.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Example, from <a href=\"http:\/\/panda3d.etc.cmu.edu\/\">Panda 3D<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/panda3d.etc.cmu.edu\/videogallery.php\">Video Gallery<\/a>&#8211;and in particular, <a href=\"http:\/\/panda3d.etc.cmu.edu\/videogallery\/videos\/carroteye_300k.wmv\">Help Me, Carrot Eye<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Didn&#8217;t get a chance to wander too far into each to find out what exactly was going on, but I felt like the proverbial kid in a candy store since I&#8217;ve been shuffling down the street for only a few years and evidently am just now seeing what&#8217;s been available for years I guess.&nbsp; Pand<em>a 3D<\/em> is obviously a more elaborate program and one meant for the more skilled and knowledgeable animator, but I just fell in love with the little story in the Video Gallery noted above and now I wanna do that.<\/p>\n<p><em>Scratch<\/em>, then, is looking worse and worse by comparison and yet, if I can&#8217;t learn to maneuver in that (and following instructions) then it would be useless for me to expect to do anything in the more advanced programs.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>ARGH!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"drop\">O<\/span>h my.&nbsp; Went to the Alice site at Carnegie Mellon just to rev myself up to finish the dumb Scratch project and pave the way to Alice and for goodness&#8217; sake I found a plethora (love that word!) of information and stuff that took my time up not in doing but in watching (I am [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-528","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-software-tools"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/528","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=528"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/528\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=528"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=528"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/susangibb.net\/blog2\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=528"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
