STORY: THE MAN WHO DISAPPEARED

AN ATTEMPT AT MINIMALISM

I’m not saying that it could ever be considered as okay, but if the body disappeared—literally in front of my eyes within seconds of my shooting him—along with the gun, am I still guilty of murder? I’d assumed he was trying to rob me. After I fired, I stood in the alleyway looking down at a pile of clothing and nothing else. He was gone, totally gone, and I’m sure would not even be missed because he was obviously homeless and living on the streets for a long, long time. So I left it there and went home.
