Ok, so I realize now that you can’t truly be recognized as a true blogger unless you post on current events, and this morning’s travels reveal the hot issue to be Michael Jackson. I almost posted this thought yesterday because the subject had of course come up, but I really wanted to set Spinning apart from political and social viewpoints. But then again, how can (or should) we really keep them out of writing?
Conservative by nature, but liberal in many other ways, my only feeling on this matter is that unless we were eyewitness to or evidence can prove this deplorable act of which he’s charged, we really can’t ever know for sure (shades of O.J. Simpson) and it’s useless to adamantly condemn him or even speculate. And sure, he’s certainly an odd one, but neither his talent nor his appearance have anything much to do with guilt or innocence.
Whenever people mention it, the only thing I ever say is “that’s for the jury to decide.” I do this with all big public trials. My opinion, if I cared to form one, would be irrelevent.
There’s no Jackson commentary currently planned on my website. You don’t have to be slave to that sort of non-news.
I consider single criminal events to not be news in most cases. For example, I don’t consider a murder in Wisconsin to be front page news. If the murder rate in Wisconsin went up 50% in one year, maybe that would be. While this Jackson business is a curiosity, I think it’s a shame that it gets more attention than the many more important things going on right now.
I’m really with you on this one, but hopped on the bandwagon only because everyone else seemed so opinionated on it. I like to take a “live and let live” attitude on other people’s lives, since I can barely keep up with my own joys and problems. I don’t think Michael cares what I think because he hasn’t asked for my judgement, So in the true spirit of nyah, nyah, I don’t care about him either.
