TECHNOLOGY: Computer Guts

Sometimes I enjoy working with my hands more than my mind, and maybe it’s just to give the top half of me a break. On Monday I worked a couple hours at a daycare center in Bridgeport adding memory ram, checking miscellaneous peripherals for stuck crayons and checking wires. Today my sister, who is the bookkeeper there (and the main reason she called me in to work on the computers, because she is, as am I, the spawn of a man who hates to see anybody’s money wasted, even if it’s the State’s) called and told me another computer is down. Quite honestly, while I think it’s great to expose three and four-year olds to technology, I have a problem with unsupervised use; especially when CD trays are pulled out, toys are stuck into slots, and mice and speakers are fought over until useless. To me, respect for equipment and other people’s property is a more important lesson to learn than Timothy Turtle Teaches Typing.

Think iBook and AirPort. You won’t be sorry!

Thanks–I most likely will be looking deeper into this in January when I return the perfume and pearls to turn around and sink the money inside my computers instead. And, you can well be assured that I will be seeking out your help and advice again when I do.
