CURRENT AFFAIRS: Civilization Advances

Friday morning heavy duty thought for the day: Let the new generation fight the bureaucracy that we older folks supposedly established. Without the worries of career and survival of the rat race ahead, I am free to do what I want with the rest of my life. That, at least, is one burden I’m taking off my own shoulders. I’m going to focus on improving myself inwardly, and while that seems self-centered, by its nature it will extend to those I touch, crossing borders of our own concentric circles as they collide with each other daily.

In truth, I vehemently deny that we’re all going to hell in a handbasket, and am getting weary of hearing about it both from the very young and the very old–this latter group, at least, should know better. I think civilization is improving itself and progressing at an astounding pace. Compare human rights of today with slavery of centuries ago, which included just about every ethnic tribe conquered by another.

Not good enough? Well, much, much better than it was, I say. Watching gladiators is only virtual reality these days. But man must never abandon dissatisfaction with the human condition, for it’s how we’ve come this far. Name-calling is several steps ahead of extermination, and with perseverance and patience—impatience when appropriate– this too, shall pass.
