This is not a new thing of course, but I must say that I love what Rethabile has done with hypertext on his blog, On English. Several words within an entry are highlighted hypertext that give a definition when the cursor is floated on them. Example: “ravishing” is “beautiful (comes from the French ‘ravissante’).
I think this is an excellent format to use, especially for language logs, above and beyond the link process. While many who read these logs are teachers or of like interest, many are learners and interested. This helps us all (of COURSE I know what ravishing means, but now I know its root!)
Thank you for the plug. Many of my students do visit my blog, and one of my concerns is helping them, of course, but not at the expense of losing my other, non-learner readers. It’s a thin line to walk.
