We skim the surface, skating on the top on winter ice. Dependent upon the depth of knowledge that is frozen into place to carry us along the edges, to the center where the water’s deep and not as deeply known. Caution is the keyword; understanding is the key frame that can bring us to the bottom layer by layer. Kill us if we fall and try to swim back through the layers to reach the hard unyielding surface that once so gaily let us tread.
Another time, another season and we fly along the surface riding waves from boats that guide us and we follow with excitement and delight. But soon the boats may halt and we are left to drift alone upon the skis that held us up but now sink with us. Swimming through the layers we reach the bottom. Rising to the top we swim around. Coming into shore we are the wiser, having met the fish and turtles along the way.
