I couldn’t really tell you which political platform favors the making of unnecessary laws, the conservatives with their Dudley Do-right attitudes or the liberals with their cover every tiny little detail mentality, or in fact, which is truly more responsible for the proliferation of thousands of new ones every year. But as governments churn, the rules and regulations against stupidity and slights spout continuously. I do blame the liberal extremists who find it necessary to write laws to tell me how to think and what I can or cannot say. I simply think that the Ten Commandments (the Catholic version, admittedly, but most versions do clearly list at least those I have referenced below), whether written by God Himself or by the wisdom of Moses, and similar early laws, pretty much can be used as a guide to cover almost all behaviors.
Thou shalt not kill. Period. Doesn’t matter if you bought a gun legally or illegally, used a baseball bat or threw the switch on the circuit panel. I’d also extend this to hurting someone, physically or emotionally, but that’s just my interpretation.
Thou shalt not commit adultery. So don’t; and yes, fellatio counts.
Thou shalt not steal. If it ain’t yours, don’t take it. If you didn’t think it, don’t claim it. Cheating is stealing, honest.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods. Don’t tell Oprah or anyone else how to spend their money. It ain’t yours, so quit acting like it is.
(You knew I couldn’t keep this thought inside forever, now didn’t you?)
I have also never understood the whole concept of liberal = politically correct speech. That actually seems like a very right-wing concept to me. Common sense should prevail, but usually doesn’t, it seems.
