One thing I have noticed in the past year of blogging, is that one of the more common reasons for closing weblogs is the feeling that one has run out of things to say.
Now this is probably more true with personal blogs rather than those based on particular topics, but what I devilishly have thought of here is that it in fact makes this an excellent medium for the more mature writer. Although there are still those who haven’t thought it through that the older one is, the more one is more likely to know, as honestly, we haven’t stopped thinking after the age of twenty-two, we just have that and X more years of experience–including what’s happening in the world this very moment, just like everyone else. Soooooo, we have lots more to say and will be less likely to run out of words.
Now, if we could only get paid for it.
As an older writer (at least older, if not an older writer), I find that I have plenty to say, but I imagine that no one is really interested in most of it. As a lit blogger, I feel that I occupy an obscure place in a somewhat obscure world. That is akin to oblivion, but I keep writing and everytime I think I’m going to stop, I keep writing. And there is more to say than I could ever put down on page or paper.
I think your site is a favorite watering hole for loads of us, so keep on writing. I think that as long as we don’t start off our posts with, “When I was a child…” our age is not evident, but hopefully our discourse is enlightening and entertaining.
