WRITING: The Festival

I’ll really sit down and write up more on some of the individual speakers, but in general the presentations have been very interesting, informative and have had great audience response.  Today I listened to Paul Dorrell, an artist, writer, and helluva good speaker.  Very down-to-earth, and that is the basis behind his book "Living the Author’s Life:  A Guide to Growing, Perservering and Succeeding in the Art World."  I bought it, had him sign it, and am very anxious to start reading.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of listening to Lucy Anne Hurston, author of "Speak, So You Can Speak Again:  The Life of Zora Neale Hurston", a book that is a multimedia event, complete with a cd that holds her famous aunt’s voice within its disc.    And of great interest to me, the process of writing and publishing the short story, by Professor Ed Ifkovic, author of "Me and Cleopatra:  writing the Short Story."  It was indeed fascinating to follow the story from its seeds of concept to its completed form, and to include the editorial suggestions that had been made prior to publication.

Last night’s New Media Panel was exciting as well–and dear to my heart, as you who plodded through this weblog last semester realized when every other entry was about my New Media course.  I’ll get back to this one later; have to run and listen to a presentation by our Western Civ instructor as well as finish up class afterwards.
