…so shall you reap. Picked the first cucumbers from the garden the other day. One ended up in soup along with a severe overdose of fresh cilantro from the garden as well. The other cucumbers were sliced and marinated in vinegar. There’s nothing like the taste of fresh garden produce, and I am eagerly awaiting the tomotoes, squash and beans.
There is a great satisfaction in watching a garden grow. From an expanse of tilled soil dotted with an occasional row of spindly seedlings to a lush cover of vines and leaves one must poke around to find and pick the vegetables over the course of the summer. The first time is the best. Unprepared, I am delighted to discover that after a few days of rain and hot sun, there is something to reward my efforts. I pick, filling up the pulled out front of my shirt to hold the bounty.
In a couple days I’ll check again, come prepared with a basket. But it won’t be quite the same.
