…to mess up my newly registered brain (like the scarecrow, as David suggests in his comment).
Well, a hundred and forty-eight dollars later (at 125/hr–the parts were 15), the pipe is fixed.
After a third reinstall of Win XP on the new pc, I have it working again, but I’m sure that it was the new video drivers that messed up the last installation so I am not sure how to circumvent this and yet get the right drivers installed. The ones on the CD that came with the graphics card are supposedly n/g according to forum discussion, and the ones that I let Win XP find for itself were the ones that blew the screen. I just don’t know where it found them–if it went to the website of the mfgr.which is where I’m supposed to get them as well. But without video, you can’t exactly see what you’re doing so I haven’t activated the Win XP with Microsoft yet in case there’s a need for more reinstallation, which is the only way to get back the video.
And what’s with Bill Gates anyway? I have four or possibly five computers and I can only use a lousy plastic CD that cost $100 on one of them?
Then again, my husband’s out of work and I don’t make much money picture framing. Perhaps with my new brain I’ll be smart enough to take some lessons from Bill Gates.
Or be a plumber instead of a lit major.
