EDUCATION: Self-Teaching

It is a hard thing to admit to oneself, but I am a lazy sot.  Unambitious, easily distracted, I excel at procrastination but come through on deadlines.  I’ve taught myself the workings of computers (except for the laptop–I never, never, open up and explore the inner sanctum of a laptop) as well as all the software since back in ’96 when I paid $1000 for a 486 with 64mb ram memory, Windows 95 and Office 3.1, no internet connection, and was shown how to turn it off and on and get to Solitaire.

I’m a bit confused (and thus discouraged) by drifting through the Dreamweaver and Macromedia Studio MX books because they seem to be geared for creating websites, and that’s not my priority.  I wanna make a moving talking story.  Therefore, I’m not sure where to start, and therefore, it’s gonna be slow goin’ to get me to get started at all.  I have Dreamweaver, Flash MX, Freehand 10 and Fireworks MX.

Any suggestions?  C’mon, things still suck pretty badly in my life right now; I need focus.  And Boethius ain’t doin’ it for me with his visions of serenity through acceptance.  I’m not willing to shave my head and wear an orange (ugh–my most hated color) robe, and I don’t have any plain white sheets for a toga–only striped and floral.  Outward calm, yes, but inside the raging needs direction.  I was hoping flash media would be it.  So where do I start?

  1. I wish I could tell you. I’m not familiar with any of those. I do know that if I ever go back to technical writing I’ll need to learn Dreamweaver. It’s pretty much the standard now. These days I’m happy with a good browser and word processor.

You can do little animated gifs with Paint Shop Pro–that’s as sophisticated as my graphics skills go.
