Perhaps it is because I have not studied Communism and do not well know its history, though I would accept that Orwell’s novel is a sad satire of this political state, as evidenced by the "comrade" designation that the animals have chosen as their sign of equality.
However, I see the building of the pyramids of Egypt by slave labor in the building of the windmill, though it is meant to be a help to labor when it is completed, it is similar in the toil and moving of the stones for its foundation, and in effect, will show the humans and animals at the neighboring farms the great abilities of Animal Farm and its residents, and of course, it will be a monument to its leader.
I see the Salem witchhunts, as much as European rebellion against state in the blaming of the ousted Snowball for all the problems that beset the farm, and in the confessions of complicity that result in their immediate executions that brings to mind the Inquisition.
This is a story that is repeated over and over again throughout history. Rebellion that comes full circle back to its roots.
