Together with my friend Louis (he had a computer, I didn’t) we produced Bowmen’s Bulletin for five years (19 issues) before selling it to a man out in Pennsylvania who thought he could make big money off of it (Hah! We always broke even and got our original investment back when we sold it.). He put out two more issues and let it die.
On the cover, that’s my nephew, Johnny, at about age six–he’s turning 22 in a couple months.
It was a labor of love, but we didn’t lose any money on it and it answered a true need for the traditional archer. It had a circulation of about 500, and the furthest copy went to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to a young soldier stationed there with his family.
Ah, this brings back some great memories! All the shoots we attended all over the country and the archers we met; the happy collating parties that included Jim, Gus and Chris as we walked around a table putting the pages together; the Society of Traditional Archers that we formed in conjunction with the magazine–I still have t-shirts with the emblem.
But don’t bid on the magazine on e-bay–I have a limited number of all the issues in my basement.
