Nature gave me one last chance today to get my ass outside and do the fall cleanup. It was a perfect day for garden and yardwork, and while I didn’t do the best job, at least I got out there. This year everything just seems too overwhelming to tackle and so I’ve retreated into the laptop where I feel I have some control over things.
It feels good to have this work mostly out of the way so that winter can rightfully start. I do have some more work to do tomorrow, but it’s all on a list and it’ll be good to finish it up. Couldn’t turn my back on the cilantro and turnips, so I picked those as the final harvest along with poppy seeds, and dug up the dahlias to store them for winter. Trimmed bushes and cut off some tree limbs.
All it took was that one final chance, and here I’ve been wishing for snow to cover my failure as a caring gardener and homeowner. Now I can snuggle down into winter without guilt.
