I wrote this one a while ago, as part of a series on the 7 Deadly Sins. I read it at the Wesleyan Writers Conference back in ’05 during a student reading program but it was waiting for just the right voice, physical voice, and I found that in Finnegan Flawnt.
Click to listen to: Lust
yay, susan, thanks for having me over here!
Always my pleasure, good sir.
I am truly amazed at that rendition, at least what I heard from a rather obstinate computer that neither favors movie clips or sound recordings. All I heard was a sexy, gritty, gravelly voice saying “Lust” and then obstinate computer seized up. Or perhaps it didn’t. Maybe that was just a very clever Susan revealing the simple fact that in the midst of big LUST minus emotional attachment, there is no reason to talk. But if computer was working right maybe I should have heard something more even if it was a lamp falling off a dresser or car horns in a parking lot.
I laugh and laugh some more and wonder if the way I heard the clip was the way the clip was meant to be.
I love that! There is a whole short story more to it, but your version does leave more to the imagination of the reader, in true Barthes’ style.
