Well I’ve gotten an early start on the feast since I couldn’t go back to sleep, but since Jim loves turkey, I’m hoping he won’t mind it for breakfast.
It started snowing just a bit ago, and I remember that I forgot to dig up the dahlias. But a layer of snow covers a lot of the undone autumn chores and with luck, I won’t be reminded until spring tries to push its way past the dead flora and fauna that should have been cut. One year I actually left deadheads on as seeds for the birds. That spring I had plenty of weeds and flowers sprouting in the lawn.
I’ve set out my tapioca to make in the morning; traditionally eggnog for this holiday, but sometimes coffee, chocolate, orange or good plain vanilla. In my Kitchenaid mixer I’ll make piecrust while at the same time grinding the turkey guts (sorry, giblets) for the stuffing. Can’t seem to make less stuffing than for a twenty-plus pound bird, so there will be some extra left over. Oh yes, one more thing I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving: I’m the only one who still knows how to make stuffing just like my mom’s.
Have a good Thanksgiving Day, enjoy food and family and friends. Yes, and like me, let the snow cover the things undone, the things unpretty, until they’re forgotten and the new goodness grows underneath to sprout up and bloom in the spring.
Happy Thanksgiving Susan! Have a great day (there’s snow here too in PA! YAY!)
… and now, back to cooking 🙂
I’m stronger willed than you because I don’t need snow to cover up my inambition to yardwork.
But every great author needs a crutch. 😉
So when are you going to read a book I’ve read?
I hope your Thanksgiving was plentiful, Susan. We didn’t get any snow, so I am envious of yours.
Hey guys, thanks and likewise.
I don’t know, Mark…have you read any McCarthy or Munro? Here’s the link to the post I made last year that lists some of what I’ve got stacked up–I can’t buy anything else yet, but am putting together a wish list on Amazon for “someday.” The link: http://smgct.typepad.com/spinning/2004/12/literature_read.html#comments
Hope you had a nice holiday. We had a very small beef roast, since my other half doesn’t like turkey.
Nope. No McCarthy nor Munro.
I’m at a tangent point of mental acuity because I walk into the bookstore these days and out with nothing in my plastic bag except for 2005 calendars – cheap.
Now that you mention it, the snow fall does point towards fresh new beginnings. Let rotten leaves be – the flowers are always a beautiful gift to look forward to.
Hope your day was a good one, Barbara–did you write a Turkey Day mystery?
Mark, I can give you a list of what to buy and well, if you don’t like them you could send them to me…
Yes Neha, it always comes back down to perception, doesn’t it?
