One thing I am learning from Gabriel Garcia Marquez is concentration on action by character, rather than through dialogue or narrator insight. Though Marquez may fool me, his technique is simple and straightforward. The "because he wanted" or "she felt that" or "with his attitude of" are all at a minimum.
