Not easy staying awake through two night classes in a row. Seriously contemplated foregoing a cigarette at break to grab a cup of coffee instead. One young man did fall asleep in Western Civ; but that’s to be expected. I tried to stifle yawns when the instructor wasn’t watching. He did remember me from several semesters ago, and he is just so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all aspects of history–especially philosophical and sociological viewpoints, that his face fairly glows when he lectures. The only problem is that he can’t be stopped, and even I need leave while he was still speaking ten minutes after class was over. It is rude, I realize, but I was so very tired…
Ran into my Spanish professor last night as well, and he invited me to sit in on his Thursday night classes to brush up on and keep up with my Spanish. He’s just the neatest man, and I’m certainly going to try to take him up on his generous offer. I’ll need to refresh my language skills for a trip to Spain in May or June to see my niece and her family, stationed there with the Navy.
Western Civ, as I suspected, will be tons of reading and tons of writing–take-home essays for exams, and two book reports. Creative Writing will require much the same. But this is where I’m more in my stride of learning; it’s the memory work and anxiety of yes or no or formula exams that I dread.
Should be a good semester; interesting, learning much, and some fun as well.
