REALITY AND WRITING: Worthy Words

Sometimes, it just seems egotistical to keep a journal open to the world. Some thoughts that find their way to textual image seem so important, or express such emotional ups and downs, or simply are a vent to get the feelings out. Some, I will admit, seem so profound or downright dazzling with their brilliance or eloquence at times, I type them as they flow and reread them with such pride.

But then, when I look out and see the world with eyes and ears more open to the pain or joy or intelligence that surrounds me, it humbles me and makes me want to pull my words back inside to where they likely best belong.

It may be best to give some thought, I think, to what importance words can serve and learn to use them better without abuse.

    Today…words seem someone else’s song. I can’t capture what I want to write. …like when I write it, “it” is wrong…but there. So it goes like days. Some sunny, some rainy. We writers don’t do it right always. Sometimes we are in a slump, sometimes we are not. You eliminate where I am on most days. When we find a reflection on the wall that looks like our’s we look at it. It may be an illusion….but we still look. {thank-YOU for your words!}

    to me, the only abuse is the silence

    words are the bridges that connect us to each other, and without the words, we might begin to believe we’re alone

    of course, I also understand your hesitation, especially the part about putting too much emphasis on how pretty they look on the page. I must guiltily admit, though, that sometimes my own words, months later, still bring me comfort.

    it is then, especially, that I have to believe I’m using words very carefully, indeed. Just as you do, (in my opinion), in that you let the words hang out there in the world, and allow us to absorb them at our leisure.

    The thing that surprises me again and again with you is that you keep generating the words, even when things go quiet, or even when things are rough around the edges. Still you manage to find some words. Amazing.

    Thank you for both your generous compliments and for noting the fact that words are what we use to reach each other. There’s really no better nor important reason than that. I enjoy reading other’s tboughts more than even I feel the need to write.
