LITERATURE: Political Power

You know how George Bush’s smirk sets your teeth on edge? Well, this guy does it for me as well.

From the BBC news this morning: “Michael Moore plans to enter Fahrenheit 9/11 as best picture, rather than best documentary, at the Academy Awards.”

We all have opinions, and at election time, seriously conflicting ones. There is a seed of truth in every opinion formed, every statement made; transformed into belief by perception. When one person has the money and power to turn that opinion into a movie by using facts, adding perception via slant in selection of what is produced (i.e., out of context), that’s propaganda, pure and simple. Not documentary. Certainly not best picture material.

If you still doubt that Moore is little more than a pompous ass, how’s this to make George’s smirk more tolerable:

“Moore added: ‘I told my crew who worked on the film, let’s let someone else have that Oscar.’ ”

P.S. Following that idea, I can well see Moore’s personal platform as him vs. Bush, and can imagine the words, “I told the people who vote, let’s let someone else (Kerry) have the presidency.”
