I do not like people making fun of the ignorance of others, although I hope to be able to laugh at myself and close friends who make the occasional gaffe. So the purpose of my quoting Larry Marshall at the Center for Wrongful Convictions at Northeastern University in Illinois in his presentation on Dateline of the abuse of the death penalty is not because I either scorn him or the issue. In fact, I am strongly against the death penalty and admire his work in seeking justice for those both wrongfully convicted or sentenced, and of course, recognize his intelligence and knowledge.
But I just gotta point to this analogy he used. In reference to the problem being within the justice system, he cited as an example, “if there’s a plane that has a string of crashes, then something’s wrong with the plane.”
I had issues with my senator, John Cornyn, using the analogy that marrying a box turtle is equal morally to gay marriage. That is just a sad analogy, regardless of where one stands on the issue…
