Twelve hours later, with wires dripping the span of 150 feet, I am finally connected via wired cable service to the shop computer. Where I am now. Where, now that it works, I’m afraid to shut it off. On the other hand, after walking back and forth and up and down and in and out for those twelve hours, I really, really need a shower.
By the way, I tried the styrofoam peanut, fishing line and vacuum hose trick, and it didn’t work, mainly because it’s a thirty-foot length of underground half-inch conduit that the phone line is already in. I tried from both ends several times. So, after I laid out the new pvc tubing and was just about to dig a trench, Spouse comes up with the brilliant idea of disconnecting the phone line, tieing a string to the end, pulling it out, then pulling it back through again together with the internet cable. This worked like a charm. Also was able to use this method to get through the garage wall to the cellar and up through the basement to the computer room. I thanked him and told him how clever he was and never asked why he didn’t come up with this sooner–he saw me flying back and forth between the house and the barn, the house and Home Depot, the house and Radio Shack, the house and Agway. Guess engineers just need time to thunk on it a bit. He made steaks for dinner though, so I had to forgive him his reticence to help. He’s also, I must admit, experienced in attempting to help me when I’m on a mission, and so has learned.
So that’s it. I’m done. I need a drink now.
Aren’t the men we love grand!? Cheers! On a job well done.
Hooray for engineers! Glad you are fully wired. Does this mean you will be blogging twice as much?
:>)
Thanks, Sallie. I do enjoy physical work and home repairs and computer innerds are my specialty. Ditto, Loretta. But maybe I won’t be blogging twice as much but at least I can do so whenever I want!
