REALITY?: This Day

On this day, Fantasy Willie was born many years ago. Although Willie Nelson has since discovered that his real birthday is May 1st, I choose (because I can do so in fantasy) to retain his original birth date of April 30th as a marker. Happy Birthday, Fantasy Willie!

Also on this day, seven years ago, a child was born minutes after I finished up a novel I was working on that ended with the birth of a little girl. The child’s name became Taylor. The little fantasy girl was named Gena.

On this day, two years ago, I sat in a small room beside a bed upon which my dying mother lay. I saw the last two breaths she drew before she let go of her fierce grip on life. I remember the blue sky and spring flowering bushes filtering the light through the window from the early afternoon sun. I stood aside so she could find her way out.

My nephew was born on my father’s birthday, four years after his death. I believe there are no coincidences. The pull and tug of death and birth are strong. I hope this day is blessed for you with memory of joy.

Loretta, it became only more deeply entrenched with memory as my girlhood friend from Tennessee suddenly appeared and called me from only a mile up the road!
