TECHNOLOGY: Susie Fix!

For those of you who missed it, it was quite an exciting afternoon on Spinning. Stuff was never in the same place twice, and I even reverted to the old template because the text on the one I’ve been using was kind of smooshed into the left sidebar along with everything else, and if it didn’t fit, well it was just cut in half.

I fixed it, and it took me a lot longer than if I had gotten onto the Typepad Forum Website and just asked, but you know, whenever I need help, it’s usually because I’ve done something really, really, dumb and so I hate to admit it.

I’m not nuts about the blue, but ever since I put that photo up on the right I’ve had to change color codes around to match better. I don’t have a good program for changing the color of the photo, I just worked with a scanner and Corel Photo House.

Yes, I will change it all. But believe me, it won’t be until I recover from this last exercise.

I had something similar the other day. I think it has to do with the code for positioning the left, center, and middle columns. After I modified the CSS code for my colums, I thought all was lost. I’m no CSS expert, but I ended up sneaking a peek at some code from other blogs and reverse-engineering it. It works best if you position the left and right sidebars “absolutely” and allow the middle one to adjust to the width of the browser window.

For example, if your left and right sidebars are 200px wide and positioned “absolutely” on the left and right sides of your site respectively, all you need to do is add, say, 215px of left and right padding to the center column and it will re-size itself to fit and not try to “hide” behind the sidebar.

Don’t you like how I said, “All you have to do…”? Seriously – If you want some help with the CSS for this, let me know and I’ll send you a copy of my CSS with some comments.

    Good luck!!
