LITERATURE: Short Stories

Although it seems I don’t have much time to read anymore, I have found through a Contemporary Fiction course that the short story is an excellent way for me to keep up. Until two years ago, I never really bothered with short stories but instead started novels that I’d have to read either on vacation, or put aside everything else to concentrate upon. Just as in my writing, once I start reading I don’t want to stop and deeply resent intrusions such as making dinner or work that interfere with my enjoyment. The short story can be read in spurts of in-between time, and still provide satisfaction and fulfillment by not leaving one hanging and anxious to get back to reach the conclusion. So the short story has become a permanent part of my life now—in reading and in writing. And, they’re even available on the internet and by God, I’ve bookmarked all the sites!

Just so you know. We now have very fine literary journals at the Tunxis Library that have loads of stories. Check em out when you have time.

Thanks–for this info as well as being the one who pushes me along on reading and writing. Now I’ll be on campus even earlier than an hour before classes. The main reason before was just to physically remove myself from the vicinity of my computer and use the time instead on studying. Then I wandered over to the computer lab…

Now I’ll spend the time at the library instead.
